How to play

From the goal cards (green backs) take the king meeple and shuffle in poisoned drops until the number of goal cards equals the number of players. Deal one card face down in front of each player. Nobody is allowed to look at their goal card. Shuffle the action cards (blue backs) and deal each player 4 cards for 5 players, 5 cards for 4 players and 6 cards for 3 players. Any leftover cards (green and blue) are not used this round. The player who is dressed most royal starts the first round.

Agree how many rounds you need to win. A round ends if everyone has played their last card or because someone played a last-turn action . A last-turn action can be overruled with another last-turn action. After the round everyone reveals their goal card. Whoever has the king meeple wins and starts the next round.

On your turn play one action card from your hand on the table and say out loud which of the two actions you want to use: top or bottom. This action is resolved. Play continues to your left. Simple!

Frequently Asked Questions

  • How does the last round action work?

When someone plays the last round action then every person has one more action to play including the person who just played the last round. However, if someone plays another last round action, they will now be the one with the last action!

  • How does the protection action work?

The player who activates the protection action does not exist at the table until it is their turn again. So their goal card does not take part in any rotations and their goal card cannot be the target of swaps and peeks.

  • How does the swap under the table action work?

Pick two goal cards from the table and hold these under the table; it is up to you what happens under the table with these two cards, but you better remember. Then place the cards, swapped or not, back in front of the players you took them from...

What? Why? Children in Hospital

When a child needs to have a procedure in hospital this can be a very stressful and scary time for them. As a parent you worry about what is wrong with your child and if your child is going to be ok. Understanding what happens during hospital procedures and explaining them to your child is not easy. Your child might feel anxious when the nurse needs to use a needle to take a blood sample, have a skin prick test or when they have to go into the MRI or CT scanner.

The What? Why? Children in Hospital charity makes child-friendly videos to help show children what will happen in hospital.

The WWCIH charity works in close partnership with the NHS and has filmed in the Royal Hospital for Children Glasgow, the Royal Hospital for Sick Children Edinburgh, Aberdeen Children's Hospital, Ninewells Hospital in Dundee and Raigmore Hospital in Inverness to make videos to help children and parents prepare for hospital and answer some of their questions starting with What? and Why?
